Welcome to The Altered Thread. My name is Shanti Valme, and I'm so glad you're here. For me, tailoring isn't just a job; it's a passion. I believe that the perfect fit has the power to transform not just how you look, but how you feel—giving you the confidence and comfort to be your best self.

My journey with a needle and thread began in my native Bangladesh and eventually brought me to the heart of New York's vibrant fashion scene. For over a decade, I've had the privilege of enhancing the wardrobes of hundreds of men, women, and children across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and Long Island.

For eight years, I honed my craft in demanding environments, including prestigious bridal shops and Maurice Garments Care in Manhattan. It was there I perfected the delicate art of altering wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, and special occasion wear. In 2024, I finally achieved my lifelong dream and opened my very own sewing workshop right here in Brooklyn, NY.

I am more than just a seamstress; I consider myself an equal parts designer, teacher, and motivator. One of my greatest joys is helping women in my community become more self-reliant by educating them to take care of small sewing tasks on their own.
